Playground Fundraiser
Our beloved playground was first established in 1992. New play structures were added in 1997 and 2011, with minimal improvements in the meantime. Since the initial installation, many children and families have touched the wooden boards and slides creating formative memories and experiences.
Phase 1 was completed in the summer of 2023 with a renovation to include two wooden covered structures and a set of monkey bars in addition to clearing a space for future improvements. WSYC also hosted an Eagle Scout project then to include a new mud kitchen, slope slide, tree cookie patio, and picnic tables.

Phase 2 will be started during the summer of 2025, so now is the time for even more families to enjoy the playground! We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating to Westminster School for Young Children to enhance our playground and create opportunities for future Westminster children. None of this will be possible without the generous support of the WSYC community! Please forward the link on to your family, friends, relatives, neighbors, etc. In addition to phase one of this playground renovation, WSYC will also be hosting an Eagle Scout project this summer to improve the playground area, which includes a new mud kitchen, slope slide, tree cookie patio, and picnic tables.

Please help us reach our goal by making a donation or mailing a check to WSYC, 3639 Old Chapel Hill Road, Durham, NC 27707.

All of us at WSYC want to thank you in advanced for your contribution! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions!

The money raised go towards our scholarship fund with tuition assistance for students to attend WSYC in future years. Our Carol Van Hise Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 with the recognition of her 25th anniversary as Director of Westminster School for Young Children. We thank her for over 50 years of love, nurture, and guidance to the students, and many thanks to the families who have made donations to our Scholarship Fund over the years through participation in our Spirit Events.

Classroom Parent Orienation
A great way to become involved at WSYC is through our Classroom Parent role. This is an important and fun volunteer opportunity that fosters community among the families in the class and ensures our hard-working teachers are supported and celebrated. Below are the key responsibilities of the role:
-
Attend ONE meeting at the beginning of the year on Monday, September 8th or Tuesday, September 9th at 9:15am to learn more about being a Classroom Parent
-
Assist with communication to families via email and WhatsApp
-
Organize events and meetups for families to meet and get to know one another outside the classroom
-
Coordinate teacher gifts for holidays, birthdays and Teacher Appreciation Week
-
Support the WSYC Advisory Board with other teacher appreciation, such as teacher treats, and encouraging family attendance at school events
FREE speech and language screenings are being offered at WSYC during the week of September 15th. Speech and language difficulties can emerge at almost any time during a child's development. Early detecting and intervention are key to identifying and treating speech/language deficits as well as preventing future academic difficulties. A small team of licensed speech-language pathologist will come to WSYC to screen all children whose parents have returned the permission slip. If you are interested, please complete the form and return it to the WSYC office. You will receive written and/or verbal notification of the screening results, If you have any further questions, please contact Tarheel Speech and Language.
Our individual and class picture days will be on Tuesday, September 23rd for Bumblebees, Koalas, Pandas, Otters, and Llamas and on Wednesday, September 24th for Ladybugs, Owls, Turtles, Frogs, and Ducks. Afterwards, you will receive a link in your email with your child's picture gallery.
