We all look forward to getting back into the school routine. Please make sure you have reviewed the following documents and have submitted these to the front office to ensure a smooth transition into the school year. Please contact Laura with any questions.
Please submit each of the following prior to the first day of school:
Our beloved playground was first established in 1992. New play structures were added in 1997 and 2011, with minimal improvements in the meantime. Since the initial installation, many children and families have touched the wooden boards and slides creating formative memories and experiences.
Now is the time to create a new space on the playground for even more children to enjoy! We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating to Westminster School for Young Children to enhance our playground and create opportunities for future Westminster children. None of this will be possible without the generous support of the WSYC community! Please forward the link on to your family, friends, relatives, neighbors, etc. In addition to phase one of this playground renovation, WSYC will also be hosting an Eagle Scout project this summer to improve the playground area, which includes a new mud kitchen, slope slide, tree cookie patio, and picnic tables.
Please help us reach our goal by making a donation or mailing a check to WSYC, 3639 Old Chapel Hill Road, Durham, NC 27707.
Next time you are in the building, see the pictures outside the office door to check the progress. All of us at WSYC want to thank you in advanced for your contribution! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions!
We will have 4 opportunities for One More Day during the 2023-2024 school year on the following dates:
Monday, September 25th, 2023 - Super Hero
Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 - Pajama Day
Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 - Crazy Day
Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 - Spirit Day
One More Day is an opportunity for the students to be with their friends to play mainly outside (weather permitting) while being supervised by a rotating team of WSYC Advisory Board members from 9am-12pm for $50. The money raised goes towards our scholarship fund with tuition assistance for students to attend WSYC in future years. Our Carol Van Hise Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 with the recognition of her 25th anniversary as Director of Westminster School for Young Children. We thank her for over 50 years of love, nurture, and guidance to the students, and many thanks to the families who have made donations to our Scholarship Fund over the years through participation in our Spirit Events.
If you are interested in registering your child, please fill out the One More Day Registration Form and pay the non-refundable $50 online (with a convenience fee already added), or by cash or check made out to WSYC. Age groups may be determined based upon the number of children in attendance. Please bring a labeled water bottle and extra change of clothes (plus diapers and wipes if needed). Both drop-off and pick up will be held outside on the playground (or inside in case of inclement weather). Snack will be provided by WSYC.
Heba Salama did a wonderful job taking your child's individual and class pictures. Please check your email for the link to your child's gallery to purchase the prints by Wednesday, November 29th. The prints will be delivered to the school for you to pick up!
We are excited to announce a partnership between WSYC and several fantastic companies to make your holiday shopping a little easier. The best part? You can now give back to the preschool you love while shopping brands like Chapel Hill Toffee, Plum Print, Minted, and more. Each vendor has generously offered to donate a portion of sales to WSYC's Scholarship Fund. This means that more children can be granted the gift of a Westminster preschool education. So, why not shop for gifts that give twice? It's a win-win!
The YMCA has planned a special Christmas shopping experience where they transform their gym into a department store full of new toys, clothes, and books!
WYSC has set up a tree with a variety of gift suggestion ornaments. If you would like to participate, simply pick an ornament(s) from the tree, purchase the gift indicated, and return it (unwrapped) to the bins inside the school entrance by Friday, December 8th.
We would like to invite you to our Christmas Celebrations in the Fellowship Hall this year. On Thursday, December 14th, we will have our Christmas Celebration at 11:15am for the Duck, Llamas, & Cool Cat classrooms and on Friday, December 15th at 10:15am for the Frogs, Turtle, & Squirrel classrooms.
We will dismiss the students early that day immediately following each celebration. Please dress your child in their Holiday attire.
