Playground Fundraiser
Our beloved playground was first established in 1992. New play structures were added in 1997 and 2011, with minimal improvements in the meantime. Since the initial installation, many children and families have touched the wooden boards and slides creating formative memories and experiences.
Now is the time to create a new space on the playground for even more children to enjoy! We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating to Westminster School for Young Children to enhance our playground and create opportunities for future Westminster children. None of this will be possible without the generous support of the WSYC community! Please forward the link on to your family, friends, relatives, neighbors, etc. In addition to phase one of this playground renovation, WSYC will also be hosting an Eagle Scout project this summer to improve the playground area, which includes a new mud kitchen, slope slide, tree cookie patio, and picnic tables.

Please help us reach our goal by making a donation or mailing a check to WSYC, 3639 Old Chapel Hill Road, Durham, NC 27707.

Next time you are in the building, see the pictures outside the office door to check the progress. All of us at WSYC want to thank you in advanced for your contribution! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions!
We will have 4 opportunities for One More Day during the 2024-2025 school year on the following dates:

Friday, October 4th, 2024
Monday, November 11th, 2024
Tuesday, February 18th, 2025
Thursday, May 22nd, 2025
One More Day is an opportunity for the students to be with their friends to play mainly outside (weather permitting) while being supervised by a team of WSYC Advisory Board Members and approved Substitutes from 9:00am-12:00pm for $50. The money raised go towards our scholarship fund with tuition assistance for students to attend WSYC in future years. Our Carol Van Hise Scholarship Fund was established in 1994 with the recognition of her 25th anniversary as Director of Westminster School for Young Children. We thank her for over 50 years of love, nurture, and guidance to the students, and many thanks to the families who have made donations to our Scholarship Fund over the years through participation in our Spirit Events.

If you are interested in registering your child, please fill out the One More Day Registration Form and pay the non-refundable $50 per day online (with a convenience fee already added), by cash or check made out to WSYC. Age groups may be determined based upon the number of children in attendance. Please bring a labeled water bottle and extra change of clothes (plus diapers and wipes if needed).
Free speech and language screenings are being offered at WSYC on Wednesday, September 18th and Thursday, September 19th. Speech and language difficulties can emerge at almost any time during a child's development. Early detection and intervention are key to identifying and treating speech/language deficits as well as preventing future academic difficulties. A small team of licensed speech-language pathologists will come to WSYC to screen all children whose parents have returned the permission slip. If you are interested, please complete the form and return it to the WSYC office. You will receive written and/or verbal notification of the screening results. If you have any further questions, please contact Tarheel Speech and Language.
