Classroom Snapshot


Teachers select various age appropriate themes and activities throughout the school year to meet their curriculum needs.  The following is a list of activities that children will participate in both on a weekly and daily basis.  

 

  • Choice Time: Developing decision-making skills by offering a variety of activities from which the child may choose.
     

  • Art: Encouraging creativity through a variety of mediums.
     

  • Science: Exploring through water or sand tables, experiments, and nature walks.
     

  • Language: Promoting language skills through storytelling, puppets, songs, and nursery rhymes.
     

  • Math Readiness: Counting, sorting, and object comparison.
     

  • Cooking: Using recipes designed to introduce different cultures and holidays.
     

  • Music and Movement: Developing an interest in music through songs and rhythm.
     

  • Outdoor Play: Developing gross motor skills through free choice and organized games.

WE OFFER SUMMER CAMPS TOO!

Toddler Classroom

Westminster offers a two day Toddler Class for children who turn one year old on or before March 31st of the year they will be attending. All children must be 18 months by September entering the program. The children will begin to gain confidence in separating from their parents or caregivers, will enjoy interacting with their teachers and classmates, and begin to develop friendships. Two teachers will work with eight students in the classroom. Though not highly structured, this is a true class with a curriculum. Art, as well as other exploratory activities, will be offered. The children will enjoy songs, stories, fingerplays, developmentally appropriate games, and outside play. Each child should be able to walk independently, must have given up their morning nap, and no longer be on bottles during the day. This class meets on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Two Year Old Classrooms

We offer three options for two-year-olds. Children must turn two on or before August 31. Our two year classes meet from 9am-12pm.
 

  • Our two day two year old class meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. 
     

  • We offer one three day class meeting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 
     

  • We offer one four day class for older twos. Children must turn two before March 31st entering this program in September. 

 

Two-year-old students are eligible for Lunch Bunch, from Noon – 1 pm if they are toilet trained.

Three Year Old Classrooms

We offer three options for three-year-olds at Westminster.
 

  • Our class of three day threes meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Children must turn three by August 31st to enter this class.
     

  • We offer one five day three year old class that meets Monday-Friday from 9am-12pm  Children must turn three by August 31st to enter this class.

  • NEW!  We now offer one five day three year old class that meets Monday-Friday from 9am-1pm.  Children entering this class must turn three by March 31st.  A lunch brought from home will be part of the class day.

All 9am - Noon three-year-old students are eligible to participate in Lunch Bunch offered daily from 12pm - 1pm.

 

It is expected that three year olds be toilet trained. We will work cooperatively with families to help train those students who have not quite attained this skill on an individual basis. 

Pre-K classroom

Pre-K Classrooms

We offer two classes of Pre-K students. These classes provide the readiness skills needed for both public and private school kindergarten. Students must turn four on or before August 31st.  These classes focus on the social-emotional development of four-year-old children while preparing them for kindergarten. A literacy based curriculum is taught and there are lots of hands-on learning opportunities for acquiring the readiness skills needed.

  • NEW! We now offer both five day four year old classes that meets Monday-Friday from 9am-1pm. A lunch brought from home will be part of the class day.
